Slave to the DVR - Southland

#Southland

WOW WOW MF!!!!!

The last 2 shows of this great cop series were incrediable. Call me a satisfied viewer and a show that was fun from start to finish.

Hand the creator and lead writer the keys to an HBO or Showtime show and let's see what they can do with some R rating.

Give TNT credit, they were excellent. They gave the right amount of rope and let this show fly.

It was a show that the Wifey and I began together and we always called it "Southwoodland" because it gave a normalcy to Los Angeles. It took fake people, had them play real people in the fakest city in the world.

Regardless, this is what more TV shows should strive for. A good 5 or 6 season run.

Mad Men is in the dumps because it is their pen-ultimate season.

Game of Thrones is on top of their game.

Southwoodland aka Southland ... Thank you and Don't Change a Thing.

Until next time #Jewfromovement

Update...

On the 2nd viewing of Chaos, the penultimate episode of the series, directed by Christopher Chulak (he also directed the pilot).

A lot is running through my head.

Was this the best hour on TV in 2013? Was it the Red Wedding?  What about 'The Crash' episode on Mad Men?

Let's do quick Q&A.

1. Rank Southland on the #JewfroTV scale? 8.5 (very high)

2. Should Michael Cudlitz win an emmy? He should submit Chaos and Reckoning & should at least be nominated.

3. What made Southland such a good show? It played by its own rules & made honest TV. The show was not taken by the mass audiences.  It was an indie show that accepted their audience and finished the stories of Sherman (OC Man) & Munce (90210) when they started as partners. The season's overlapped nicely & the story continued to unfold.

4. Will you be doing a rewatch?

Slave 2 The DVR - Winter / Spring 2013

Slave to the DVR
End of Winter/Early Spring ‘13

Beautiful day in Kansas City on the day the Jayhawks season ended.

What I’m Watcing:

West Wing S3, just finished S1-S2. Leans to the left, which is the way the world is tilting right now. Most issues in the early 2000’s are the same issues 13 years later.

The Good Wife, big fan of this show, but I feel it is flailing. Alicia needs more focus. They are all over the map with her.  Sometimes less is more entertainng.

Southland, really enjoyed watching the road these 4-7 officers have traveled.  They should follow it up with EMT’s or Firepeople. That Boston show looks dull. If Southland
gets cancelled, it will be missed in my household.

The Walking Dead, Guilty F’ing Pleasure. Got to admit.  I was hazy at the beginning about this show, but now, I can’t stop watching.

The Mindy Project, this show has come on & is beginning to hit its stride. Way better then New Girl. If Mindy & Danny are set on a path to get together, it would be way more complicated then living with someone.  IE – Jess & Nick

What I’m Excited For:

GOT – Duh… For the record, I have not read the books. Thinking about holding off and watching a few back to back.

Mad Men – Another Guilty “F’ing” Pleasure, Don Draper, excellent TV character.

Happening & I'm Missing:

Justified, we'll see if I ever get around to watching it.

What I’m Done With:

White Collar, Lost me with Neil & his Dad.

Community, They were great when they were good. When they are bad, wow, they are really bad.

30 Rock, have the 3 last episodes to go. Is it even worth my time at this point?

THE CAPITAL

HOUSE OF CARDS

Not a Spacey fan, but I did give the Live Tweet tonight, a Usual Suspect theme.  “Give me the keys, you fucking cock sucker, fucker.” The lineup line in a classic movie scene.
House of Cards is fresh. Somewhat believable & the other side of Washington DC then Homeland. Robin Penn is an intriguing character. Love the BBQ man from The Wire.

What's funny to me is the lack of reporting on it. Everyone purged & now it is seldomed talked about or discussed. I guess Dateline's Newscycle's and Timeline's don't require a $$ amount to continue reporting on such a show.

I compare House of Cards to MLS.  It's fresh enough, but not tainted by a Network & someone's ego & bias.

So have you finished Season 1?

Comments welcomed about your DVR.

Breaking Bad Recap - Live Free or Die

Live Free or Die
S5 - Ep 1

Episode #48 in the Breaking Bad catalogue was not the most entertaining hour. However, the purpose of any premier, move the story forward. "Live Free or Die" did exactly that.

The opening was a nod to "Lost" , a flash forward. WW all by himself on his BDay 9-18 months since he successfully plotted & killed Gus Fring. At Denny's he meets a familiar looking man to pick up a Gun?

Most of the progress took place between Walt/Jesse & recruiting Mike onto the team. The mission, capture the lab top with evidence that they were all involved with the chicken man.

Mike, a very unique character, first appeared cleaning up Jane's death in S2 . That is also around the time that Gus's presence was being felt. Since then we learned Mike worked for Gus & was loyal. That created the friction between Walt, who was only loyal to his family. Jesse & Walt's relationship is comparable to Hank & Walt Jr's or the Uncle to a nephew.

The Skyler/Beneke story is hopefully done with. Total Snooze fest! Actually, Anna Gunn was over acting the whole episode.

Bob Odenkirk is in exceptional form as Saul Goodman. "Ethics" was the comment of the episode.

A little disappointed in the junk yard scenes. Under used, played down. Is something more there?

Lastly, We celebrated WW 50th BDay in the S1 premier. Now we are celebrating his 52nd BDay. That is what makes this TV show so unique. The use of time. Fast v Slow, Day v Night.

That brings up 8 questions..

Has the ABQ become too small?
Will they leave the ending so a movie can be made?
Could a movie be made of the Soprano's?
Is Gomez a spy?
Was it the same junkyard in S1?
WTF was up at the beginning of the episode? Beard? Hair? AK? NH?
Will the pace slowly pick up or have we only seen 6 months of Walt's life?
Can Breaking Bad finish on top?

Until next week #jewfromovement...

Slave 2 the DVR - Summer 2012

What I'm Watching Right Now:

White Collar

Big fan of the Neal Caffrey/Peter Burke duo. Tiffani Thiessen is solid. They have a good supporting cast and find interesting ways to mix some eye candy along with quality guest stars.
Hard 2 believe this show has started its 4th season. I was a little disappointed by the premier. However, I have hope they stay tropical a few more episodes before returning 2 the big apple.

Newsroom

HBO is past it's prime! They go for quantity v quality. HBO gave Sorkin the keys & he is taking full advantage. 2 much of a high brow/puffed up show 2 become a regular in the DVR.

Whale Wars

The campaign has not gone as planned for Capt Paul Watson, however, I have a feeling it's about to turn around. Japs v Pirates = pretty darn good REALITY TV.

What I'm Excited 4:

Breaking Bad

If you follow me on Twitter, you know my passion 4 Walter White & Jesse Pinkman. The meth cooking/dealing duo return tomorrow night. Come back here each week 4 my recaps of the final 16 episodes. I'm such a #BB nerd, I did a S1 & S2 rewatch 2 prepare 4 the final episodes. Hope 2 see your comments soon about the best show in my DVR.

Homeland Season 2

Terrorist, conspiracy theory and Claire Danes playing bat shit crazy. Me likey!
